DAY 26 of the 30 day meditation. Opening the 7 chakra's.

Today's meditation was to help open the seven chakra's and to keep them balanced.  Over the last twenty-six days many forms of meditation techniques have been learned, including seven days that were dedicated to working on each individual chakra.  What I have also learned is that these light centers, once opened, can be very powerful and not for everyone, so today let's explore how to get them going, centered and balanced, without opening them too far.

First, let's refresh ourselves with the basics of each chakra; the color, the meaning, the position.  The first Chakra is at the base of your spine, this is the Root and is red in color.  The root chakra helps you reconnect with nature and as it becomes balanced, you release fear and learn to take a more calm approach to things, as opposed to 'fight or flight'.

Next is the Sacral chakra.  Orange in color, it sits about two inches below your navel.  Some might call this the pleasure center, since it is where your sensuality, optimism and creativity comes from.  This is like the confidence chakra, of sorts.  When balanced, you will find that you become more positive, less self-loathing and you become intune with your feelings.

Third on the spinal ladder of internal lights, is the Solar Plexus.  It is a warm yellow and is located just below your tummy area, about two inches above your navel.  This is also a chakra of confidence and positivity and when balanced, can help you feel like you are radiating like the sun, free of negative energy and feeling friendly and outgoing, along with logical and goal oriented.

The fourth chakra is the heart chakra.  It is green and located, well you guessed it, in your chest.  This chakra gives you courage to 'go in love', and be open to giving and receiving love.  It helps you release doubt, grudges and leaves you in a place of compassion and kindness.

The fifth chakra is the throat chakra, blue in color and like your heart, located in the area it is named for.  This chakra helps you "find" your voice so that you can be heard.  It allows you to say no, if need be, as well as "respect me" when being tread upon, without coming off as aggressive or demanding.  It basically helps you find your true voice.

Sixth in line is the third eye chakra, and not one to be messed with, is indigo in color and located in the center of your forehead roughly between your brows.  I always mention to exercise caution with this chakra, as it demands respect and can be very powerful, as you are piercing the veil with this chakra.  This chakra is also about trust.

The seventh chakra is the mommy of them all.  This is a chakra the professionals work towards to gain complete perspective on the world.  Do not fully open this one or the sixth one until you are familiar with each chakra and understand the importance of each one.   Located above your head, this chakra, which a glows a beautiful violet color, is where you connect your lower self to your higher self.  To me this means, body meet spirit.  Compassion, devotion, sacrifice and kindess are all represented here.  If you want a picture example of the seventh chakra, think the Dalai Lama.

Now, fully opening your chakra's without understanding each one, can be dangerous, as each one open you up to new feelings and can open old wounds to heal them.  I suggest proceeding with caution.  I have spent weeks learning to open mine effectively and too be honest, although I have done each of the seven meditations, I am only now learning about the throat chakra and effectively learning to balance it.   There is no rush to open each one.  Get to know each light center and what it does when balanced and imbalanced.  These are spiritual things and need to be treated with the absolute highest level of respect.

If you feel you might be glowing brighter than you prefer, I suggest imagining your body has an internal dimmer switch.  Use this to lower your light level a wee, especially if you're becoming overwhelmed, or if you are going out, so you can protect yourself and not pick up on every vibe that might cross your path and cause an unexpected imbalance.

I am not trying to scare anyone, I am just trying to keep you aware and safe, just as I do for myself, which is why, again, I have spent weeks on learning how to open each chakra and why I am still learning.

The meditation:  Breathe in to the count of five, peaceful thoughts, exhale to the count of eight, your stress.  Breathe in again to the count of five, filling your lungs with air as you clear your mind, exhale to the count of eight, your worries and anxieties.  One last time, inhale to the count of five, air that cleanses your body, exhaling to the count of eight, your last remaining thoughts.  Now breathe naturally.  Focus on your root (red) chakra. If it is not glowing or spinning at a normal speed, imagine yourself breathing life into it with each inhalation.  You can use my pinwheel analogy, which again, is imagining a pinwheel the color of the chakra, and when you inhale, it begins to rotate in a clockwise direction.  Repeat this process for each chakra, the sacral (orange), solar plexus (yellow), heart (green), throat (blue), third eye (indigo) and crown (violet).

Remember, if you are just learning, keep them spinning at the average, not too fast/slow, speed and keep them dim enough to be balanced, but not bright enough to overwhelm you.

Until tomorrow...respect the chakra's and all they stand for. Delving into this area is a life choice, not just a hobby to be taken lightly.

Sissy Jo....

Well, it goes without saying that the days leading up to Comic Con were anything but non-emotional.  Is that even a word?  Seriously, my mind lately. Sissy Jo, one of the three girls I call my soul sister, passed away on June 29th, her funeral was held two days before we left for Comic Con. Admittedly, this reminded me, as well, of mama being sick last year during Comic Con, so of course our 8th trip to the 'Con', was a little bluer than I think we had hoped, but we did manage to have a good time, because we know that is what Jo would have wanted.  As we all know you can't make the pain just disappear, or the sadness that comes with losing someone so important and special to your life.  As anyone could tell you, JoAnn was a force to be reckoned with, a little whirlwind of organization, love and smiles.  She loved many who were in her path and she taught us lessons of survival, never giving up and fighting the good fight. I me...

From a personal journey to...

I have blogged off and on about a personal journey I have been on for about a year or so.  It's nothing earth shattering for anyone but me.  I hate to say it, but I kind of became a cliché.  Indeed, I had become that person who needed to find themselves.  One of my favorite quotes along the way came from Tolkien, "Not all those who wander are lost".  It kind of contradicts my previous statement, well not kind of, it does, because I talk about finding myself, but truly, I knew where I was all the time.  Are you confused yet? Think of it as standing outside of your body inside a hall of mirrors.  Like a carnival there are images of you everywhere, but only one of those images are you.  So you go about seeking the solid figure and along the way you hit dead ends, walls, other mirrors with images of yourself and so on, until you finally stop, breathe and realize if you look at the mirror in front of you, there you are.  You stop trying so hard...

Day 8 of 30 days of gratitude.

Today I dedicate this blog to Sissy Jo.  Today would have been JoJobean's 47th birthday and she lived every moment the best that she could.  I am forever grateful that I spent her last night on earth with her.  It was like old times when we had a lot of Sissy sleep-over's, watching "ghosty" shows, chatting, being sisters.   That night she told me her dreams for me and what she was sure would be my reality for the future. What people didn't see was JoAnn's fight.  When it was posted on Facebook that she had passed away, so many of my own family and friend's commented that they didn't even know she was still sick.  In fact, she was on her way to do payroll when she collapsed, the afternoon she passed away.  She had set-up a makeshift office at home, because her dedication to the work and people she cared about, never stopped. JoAnn was re-diagnosed in December 2008.  She had been in remission for almost four years when breast cancer came ba...
