Are you one of those people who are a little unbalanced emotionally, or mentally, during a full moon? Perhaps you go a little crazy, or maybe you turn into a hairless werewolf? Well, I may have the solution you are looking for. I can't promise it will work miracles, but there is a possibility it might be able to help bring you back to a desirable level of sanity.
Some people don't give the moon enough credit. Sure a full moon lights up the earth a bit more than usual, and sure it might make some canines bay at the moon, but it can also mess with your personal being. Think about it, moon cycles play with the ocean tide right? Well, seeing how the body is made up of a large percentage of water, isn't it plausible that the moon is also playing with the human body? Throwing it off balance and making you feel not so emotionally fresh?
I am not a scientist. I am not a trained person when it comes to meditations, so I am putting that out there now. I have studied quite a few different techniques though and modified some to work for me, but the one I am sharing today is one that came to me, literally, while I was writing during my lunch break in the middle of the afternoon.
Right around Christmas, with the Full Moon approaching, I paid close attention to how I was feeling and realized that I was becoming more tense, a little cranky and frankly, downright uptight. Now, I am not sure if this is how I normally am during a Full Moon, though I tend to doubt it, since no one ever really says anything to me, but just in case it is my normal, 'baying-at-the-coworkers-instead-of-the-full-moon persona', I closed my eyes and tried to center myself.
I did the usual, to the count of five, deep breaths in, filling my lungs, then exhaling to the count of eight, emptying the air from my body. I sat for a moment, then suddenly I saw myself standing in a large field. I felt relaxed and as I centered myself, I realized I was doing somewhat of a balancing ritual with the moon. Say what you will, but it works for me, when I remember to use it, and now I am sharing it with you, because I found it is very helpful.
Meditation to balance with the full moon:
If you aren't afraid of public displays, you can do this exercise outside, if you are a little more on the shy side and aren't into showing off your wicked awesome meditation skills, then you can stay indoors. Don't worry, the moon's energy will find you no matter where you are.
Let's get started.
Stand up straight (you can sit, but be sure your arms have room to move). For those of you who meditate, I found grounding myself with the earth particularly interesting and rather energizing. If you are a newbie, I would wait a bit until you try these two together. The first time I tried it, I made myself dizzy from soaking in too much energy, so fair warning, practice with caution if you choose to ignore my warning and when you're done, try to get up slowly, instead of just standing up.
Relax your body.
Close your eyes.
As you begin to form a circle above your head (raise your arms until the tips of your fingers touch. Only my middle fingers touch) imagine the full moon rising behind you until it is right behind your head.
When your circle is formed, imagine the moon rising over your circle and then setting in front of you until you are "eye to eye" with the moon. Now, lower your hands to your side, until they are about five inches from your body, palms out and hold your hands there.
Breathe in, to the count of five, tranquility (or your hopes and dreams), breath out to the count of eight the following, "I release negativity and doubt". You can say the mantra either in your head, or aloud, it's your preference. Your breathing exercise is meant to be done while you are basking in the glow of the moon that is sitting in front of you. Ex. (breathing in) I breathe in tranquility (or your hopes and dreams), (breathing out) I release negativity and doubt.
Repeat the breathing exercise several times until you feel completely relaxed and balanced with the moon's energies. When you are finished with this meditation, say the words, 'Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" and allow the moon to rise high into the sky.
You can also use this meditation for a new moon. I realize it is the moon with the light switch turned off, so if you have trouble picturing this, just imagine the outline of a circle and follow the steps above. The New Moon is considered a manifestation moon, so keep your thoughts positive.
I hope this helps you. It doesn't matter what your beliefs are, meditation is a universal method of centering yourself and finding balance. This exercise is intended to help a person, find not just their balance, but also to connect with the moon's energy and help one focus a little better.
Enjoy the beauty of the moon. You can't look directly at the sun without hurting your eyes, but you can gaze at the moon for as long as you like. It's a beautiful part of the night sky, that sometimes gets overlooked, so give it a little love.
Until the next time, baying at the moon and becoming a werewolf, is not recommended. Balancing and centering is.
