First Foodie review. La Creme de la Crepe, Beverly Hills, CA

Sometimes it is the little, unassuming places that have the most amazing food.  While driving down Olympic, heading towards one of my favorite Thai restaurants, I spotted a 'Restaurant and Creperie'.  The restaurant is quaint and serene, with a sweet French feel to it.   Sis Laura loves crepes, so I figured what the heck and we decided to have 'Authentic French Cuisine".  Our waiter, Francois, was very attentive and friendly, but that was just the start to a delightful dinner that not only tickled my tastebuds, but made my tummy smile too.

Now, I am not a normal foodie, I couldn't tell you how you make the dishes, but I can tell you that it was one of the most delightful meals I have had in a very long time.  I decided to go 'restaurant' with my menu choice and chose the beef bourguinon, coupled with the Hob Nob Pinot Noir.  My first bite made my eyes instinctively close with its savory taste from the rich flavored wine sauce.  Each bite practically melted in my mouth.

Sis Laura decided to go "creperie", which is one of the reasons we detoured from our original destination and went to Creme de la Crepe.  Laura had the Farmer's Crepe which included, spinach, goat cheese, tomatoes and asparagus.  It also had walnuts, but Sis Laura opted out on the nuts.  I took a bite of her crepe and I tell you, I asked for another.  It was not only delicious as well, but my sister, who can be picky about her crepes, loved it too and enjoyed every last morsel.

The crepes are nicely sized and my beef bourguinon was a portion just large enough to leave me content, but not full and wanting to crawl out of the door in a food coma.  It was perfect.  Sis Laura's crepe left her full, which should tell you how large it was.

Since I still had a little room left and my sister can't deny herself a good dessert, or a crepe, I opted for the Lola Rose crepe. Filled with banana's and melted chocolate and topped with almonds, chocolate sauce and powdered sugar, this delectable treat did not only receive Francois' thumbs up, but he kept coming by to see how much we liked it. Apparently the Lola Rose is a favorite at this restaurant.  The dish, finished off with a dollop of whipped cream and a scoop of French Vanilla ice cream, was so delicious I would recommend this place if you are just in the neighborhood for dessert.

Long story short, Sis Laura and I have decided that we want to be regulars at this place and will definitely be going back soon.  Located at the corner of Doheny and Olympic, perhaps you should go and try it too.  I stepped out of my comfort zone and was treated with one of the best dinners in a long time.

Sissy Jo....

Well, it goes without saying that the days leading up to Comic Con were anything but non-emotional.  Is that even a word?  Seriously, my mind lately. Sissy Jo, one of the three girls I call my soul sister, passed away on June 29th, her funeral was held two days before we left for Comic Con. Admittedly, this reminded me, as well, of mama being sick last year during Comic Con, so of course our 8th trip to the 'Con', was a little bluer than I think we had hoped, but we did manage to have a good time, because we know that is what Jo would have wanted.  As we all know you can't make the pain just disappear, or the sadness that comes with losing someone so important and special to your life.  As anyone could tell you, JoAnn was a force to be reckoned with, a little whirlwind of organization, love and smiles.  She loved many who were in her path and she taught us lessons of survival, never giving up and fighting the good fight. I me...

From a personal journey to...

I have blogged off and on about a personal journey I have been on for about a year or so.  It's nothing earth shattering for anyone but me.  I hate to say it, but I kind of became a cliché.  Indeed, I had become that person who needed to find themselves.  One of my favorite quotes along the way came from Tolkien, "Not all those who wander are lost".  It kind of contradicts my previous statement, well not kind of, it does, because I talk about finding myself, but truly, I knew where I was all the time.  Are you confused yet? Think of it as standing outside of your body inside a hall of mirrors.  Like a carnival there are images of you everywhere, but only one of those images are you.  So you go about seeking the solid figure and along the way you hit dead ends, walls, other mirrors with images of yourself and so on, until you finally stop, breathe and realize if you look at the mirror in front of you, there you are.  You stop trying so hard...
