Day 8, 30 day writing challenge

Just when you thought this blog couldn't be any more random than it already is, I give you this.... The letter M is the 13th letter of the alphabet.  Don't ask me why I know this, I just do for some odd reason.  Maybe it's because 13 is my favorite number, or maybe it's because I was bored one day and decided to see what my entire name added up to (ie corresponding numbers to each letter of my name)...277 for the record.

Yes, I have a long name.  Twenty-five letters. There are eleven in my first name alone, yet ironically my last name has five letters. *rolls eyes*  Don't get me wrong though, I love my name. Shellymarie seems to flow nicely off the tongue, though it has been reduced to Shell in most cases.  My parent's did good. *thumbs up*

Getting back to 13, the superstition and bad luck seems to come from bad things that have been noted  through history and myths.  There are stories galore as to why 13 is a horrid number, you can find those all over the internet, as well as historical happenings, such as the possible original link to the superstition, courtesy of the Knights Templar.  On Friday the 13th, 1307 the Knights Templar were arrested under false pretenses...and about two and a half years later, the first 54, of more to come, were burned at the stake in Paris (That was a Monday, if my calendar searching skills are working properly...so remember that the next time you think your Monday is a bad one).

Many people are afraid of the number 13, so much so, some hotels or commercial buildings, will not place an elevator button for the 13th floor.  Keep in mind that if you really are worried about it, you can count levels and tell which floor is actually the thirteenth, which often times becomes 12 or 14.  I have had the pleasure of being on the 13th floor, listed as the 14th and yes,  I lived to tell this tale. Obviously.

Also, why not stop using the letter M, if 13 really is bad luck?  What about Mickey Mouse...? He would be in trouble without those M's...same with Marilyn Monroe...well, bad example, she had a tough private life, all things considered.  By the way Mickey Mouse's initials, MM, translate to 1313, the address of the Mickey and Friend's parking structure at Disneyland.  Coincidence?  Not sure, but doubtful considering how on top of things Disney seems to be.  Going back to the original thought, why not stop using the letter M?  Well, because no one thinks about it that's why and all of those people running around with the number 13 in their names, are none the wiser and I am sure they are just fine.

I'm not picking on the letter M, in fact, my name would sound completely ridiculous without it.  I have nothing but love for the number 13, so much so, I found a picture on the web giving it a pretty pink crown...For all the discrimination you suffer, this crown is for you...much deserved thirteen.  much deserved.

Just for the record, 13 became my lucky number when I decided I no longer wanted to have bad luck on Friday's.  Yes, those too became my lucky day.  Nothing, but awesomeness happens, even in the littlest of happenings, like the elevator coming to the ground floor, before I push the button.  Why? Because I intend for an exceptional day and I get one.  Perhaps 13 is nothing more than a misunderstood number in our psyche, fueled by myths, historical fact and superstition.

And yes, I am superstitious.

Until tomorrow....complete randomness and bouncy writing coming to close.

Meditation for a Full or New Moon.

Are you one of those people who are a little unbalanced emotionally, or mentally, during a full moon?  Perhaps you go a little crazy, or maybe you turn into a hairless werewolf? Well, I may have the solution you are looking for.  I can't promise it will work miracles, but there is a possibility it might be able to help bring you back to a desirable level of sanity. Some people don't give the moon enough credit. Sure a full moon lights up the earth a bit more than usual, and sure it might make some canines bay at the moon, but it can also mess with your personal being. Think about it, moon cycles play with the ocean tide right?  Well, seeing how the body is made up of a large percentage of water, isn't it plausible that the moon is also playing with the human body? Throwing it off balance and making you feel not so emotionally fresh? I am not a scientist. I am not a trained person when it comes to meditations, so I am putting that out there now. ...

Mantra: I choose to be happy/excited.

Hi!  I am back.  I posted my summation blog yesterday, talking about my thirty day meditation journey. I mentioned I would also blog about the daily mantra, but alas, I forgot.  Oops. Sorry about that.  I do believe everything happens for a reason though, after all how could I possibly write two separate blogs, about two things that go hand in hand so well?   I choose to be happy.  I choose to be excited.  I personally feel these two can be fused together.  I mean what moment of excitement didn't result in happiness, or what moment of happiness didn't result in excitement?  Though we usually associate excitement with something big, the littlest of things can also make one excited.   A few days ago, my dad called me up and we chatted for a bit.  Recently back from a trip to Hawaii, I asked my dad to bring me back a pen or two.  I love pens, they are my weakness.  It is also something small when people...

Writing. Day 19, 30 day challenge.

I am making myself finish my book once and for all tonight,  so I leave you with one of my favorite pictures I took with some new fancy app at the time. This is one of my favorite journals and pen. Until tomorrow...dream big and never give up on them.
