Comic Con Day 2 - Part 2

The morning in Hall H opened with the funny filmmaking trio of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.  To make it even funnier, Chris "Nerdist" Hardwick, also the host of 'The Talking dead' was the panel moderator.  From the last of the Cornetto Trilogy to the ever present "Button lady", this panel did not disappoint where humor is concerned.  It was fun and a fabulous way to wake up.  A fan of 'Shaun of the Dead' and 'Hot Fuzz', I am looking forward to the latest and last installment of a trilogy named for ice cream, from Edgar Wright, 'The World's End'.
Are you wondering what a Cornetto is? Well it is present in every one of the three movies, but if you haven't seen it, we Americans were enlightened by our British entertainers, that it is an ice cream cone, whose closest counterpart is probably a Drumstick. If that isn't satisfying enough for you, try this... Cornetto Ice Cream.
Cold sugary confections aside, let's move on.  The World End comes out in August and looks to be just as funny as it's two predecessor's.  I want to see it just because it is made by these three.  Their movies are a fun rollercoaster ride of craziness and laughing.  The chemistry between the two friends, Pegg and Frost, is more than perfect and it leaves for a fun time.
Next up was Veronica Mars.  I have only seen one episode, I liked it, but forgot about it.  I didn't realize that when I had finally seen an episode, the show had actually been canceled.  That said, I think people should go see this movie just based on the fact that the capital behind the show was funded by 90,585 fans who raised over five million dollars in about ten hours on Kickstarter.com.  How awesome is that? That is true dedication.  The panel was lively and funny, which makes for good chemistry, which will make for a good movie.
Kickass 2.  What can I say about KickAss 2?  I have never seen the first one, but the trailer for the second looks amazingly funny!  The stars of this movie are not only hilarious in the film, but freakin' funny during the panel.  Two stars were missing, Jim Carrey and Chloe Grace Moretz, but Moretz beamed in via satellite. I can tell you now, that young lady is going to go a long way in the entertainment business.  She is young, but she is classy, witty and smart.
KickAss 2 was followed up by Riddick.  Vin Diesel looks like a bad ass. Sounds like a bad ass, but has a demeanor of a fun guy, with a bit of a little boy that emerges when his laughs turn into manly giggles.  It is endearing and sweet.  This is all good for the ladies and gentlemen who are fans of his, BUT don't let the real man fool you, the trailer did not disappoint when it comes to badass.  The sound grabs you from the inside and shakes you inside out. My kind of movie.  The action...BOOM, there was one scene that made Laura cringe and look away, while I squee'd with joy.  That doesn't say much for me, but then my mind does have its dark corners. *sassy face*

Finally it was time for the panel I was waiting for...the one I missed last year and the show that finally stopped getting away from me, The Walking Dead.  SQUEE!  What a great panel. Funny, witty, great trailer for the new season, amazing actors and an all around camaraderie that reflects on the screen whether it is the hero, the villain  or the man struggling with moving on in a world that keeps fighting back.  The upcoming season is only going to get better, badder and more zombified.  Who should one be afraid of, the Humans or the Zombies?  Great thought, though Hardwick took a little ribbing for thinking the humans were more dangerous.  The exploration of the human existence in a post apocalyptic world ravaged with flesh eaters, is interesting and I can't wait to see how they touch on this in season four.  Oh yeah and Norman Reedus was there. How can you not adore someone who is badass with a crossbow? Team Daryl all the way. haha!

It was a great day for panels for us, as we left after the TWD, but it only got more interesting when the elevator on the bridge crossing over from the Hilton garage, broke and I had to carry Laura's wheelchair down a 80+ steps. I certainly got my exercise today...oh yeah, bring on the zombies that have overrun Petco!!.  On second thought, no. I still won't step into Petco as a "survivor" and I am such a big chicken, I won't even be a spectator. hahaha!  keep them in my television thank you.

Tomorrow...early early again for the Warner Bros. and Marvel panels....and The Hunger games. Those three I am waiting for with anticipation and giddiness.  You willed us great seats today, so will us great seats again tomorrow! thank you and yay!! =-D

Sissy Jo....

Well, it goes without saying that the days leading up to Comic Con were anything but non-emotional.  Is that even a word?  Seriously, my mind lately. Sissy Jo, one of the three girls I call my soul sister, passed away on June 29th, her funeral was held two days before we left for Comic Con. Admittedly, this reminded me, as well, of mama being sick last year during Comic Con, so of course our 8th trip to the 'Con', was a little bluer than I think we had hoped, but we did manage to have a good time, because we know that is what Jo would have wanted.  As we all know you can't make the pain just disappear, or the sadness that comes with losing someone so important and special to your life.  As anyone could tell you, JoAnn was a force to be reckoned with, a little whirlwind of organization, love and smiles.  She loved many who were in her path and she taught us lessons of survival, never giving up and fighting the good fight. I me...

From a personal journey to...

I have blogged off and on about a personal journey I have been on for about a year or so.  It's nothing earth shattering for anyone but me.  I hate to say it, but I kind of became a cliché.  Indeed, I had become that person who needed to find themselves.  One of my favorite quotes along the way came from Tolkien, "Not all those who wander are lost".  It kind of contradicts my previous statement, well not kind of, it does, because I talk about finding myself, but truly, I knew where I was all the time.  Are you confused yet? Think of it as standing outside of your body inside a hall of mirrors.  Like a carnival there are images of you everywhere, but only one of those images are you.  So you go about seeking the solid figure and along the way you hit dead ends, walls, other mirrors with images of yourself and so on, until you finally stop, breathe and realize if you look at the mirror in front of you, there you are.  You stop trying so hard...

Day 8 of 30 days of gratitude.

Today I dedicate this blog to Sissy Jo.  Today would have been JoJobean's 47th birthday and she lived every moment the best that she could.  I am forever grateful that I spent her last night on earth with her.  It was like old times when we had a lot of Sissy sleep-over's, watching "ghosty" shows, chatting, being sisters.   That night she told me her dreams for me and what she was sure would be my reality for the future. What people didn't see was JoAnn's fight.  When it was posted on Facebook that she had passed away, so many of my own family and friend's commented that they didn't even know she was still sick.  In fact, she was on her way to do payroll when she collapsed, the afternoon she passed away.  She had set-up a makeshift office at home, because her dedication to the work and people she cared about, never stopped. JoAnn was re-diagnosed in December 2008.  She had been in remission for almost four years when breast cancer came ba...
